Reach 100 points to win. New letters after each play!
Build words from your 8-letter hand. Score 100 points to win!
Word Marathon is an endurance word-building game. You are dealt a hand of eight letters and must keep forming valid English words until your cumulative score reaches 100 points. Every time you play a word, the letters you used are replaced with fresh ones, so the challenge is not just finding one good word โ it is finding a steady stream of them without burning through your rerolls.
The game borrows its scoring from Scrabble, so the same strategy that wins at the board game wins here: favour high-value letters, stretch for longer words, and never waste a Q or Z on a short play. You have three free rerolls per game to swap out a hopeless hand, and a small supply of hints for when you are truly stuck.
Each word is scored using standard Scrabble tile values, with the same letter hierarchy as competitive play:
Longer words naturally score more because they contain more tiles, and they also let you burn through low-value letters to make room for better ones. Hints cost 5 points each, so they are best reserved for late-game situations where a single word will push you over the finish line.
Marathon-style games reward a different skill than one-shot puzzles: sustained word retrieval. You have to keep producing valid words under the pressure of a slowly draining hand, which trains your brain to cycle through its vocabulary faster and more flexibly. Players who practise this kind of sustained generation tend to perform better in timed Scrabble formats, spelling competitions and even impromptu speaking, where the ability to pull the right word out of memory quickly is everything.
Because each new hand is dealt server-side, every game is a unique puzzle. Hit Start Marathon above and see how many turns it takes you to cross the line.
